Jonathan Cordone is the Principal and Founder of Cordone Consulting LLC. With more than twenty years of policy experience, he has worked in both houses of Congress and the executive branch.

Jonathan served in the Obama Administration as the Deputy Under Secretary of Agriculture for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services. In this capacity, he led USDA’s international activities, meeting with foreign officials, resolving trade disputes, and promoting American food and agriculture.


Previously, he served as USDA's Principal Deputy General Counsel, the Department's second highest ranking attorney. He came to USDA from the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry where he was the Deputy Staff Director and Chief Counsel under the leadership of Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D, MI).

In his time with the Committee, Cordone played an important role in the enactment of the Agriculture Act of 2014, often referred to as the Farm Bill. He also helped lead inquiries into the collapse of the futures firms MF Global and Peregrine Financial as well as the purchase of Smithfield Foods by China's Shuanghui Group.


Throughout his time on the Committee he worked closely with USDA, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and the Senate Finance Committee on multilateral trade negotiations in Europe, the Pacific Region, and the World Trade Organization.

Export Import Bank

Cordone’s government service also includes time as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the Export-Import Bank of the United States and as General Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce under the chairmanship of Rep. John D. Dingell (D, MI). His bipartisan work was instrumental in the enactment of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 and several laws aimed at protecting consumers from faulty products and unfair commercial practices.


Jonathan also serves as the Executive Director of the Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance, a nationwide coalition of the fruit, vegetable, and horticulture industries in the United States, and a Senior Advisor to Boundary Stone Partners, a leading energy and climate government affairs firm in the nation’s capital.

He began his career practicing law in New York and Connecticut in commercial finance. He earned his B.A. in political science from Mary Washington College and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Jonathan volunteers as a voting rights attorney and supports a number of other charitable causes.
